Sign up here \nFor Parents and Carers \nThe Basement is a neutral\, welcoming space in Helston town centre — not attached to any school or existing group — where young people aged 11–18 can meet\, create\, and build new friendships. \nThis pilot project uses high-quality creative workshops to support confidence\, wellbeing\, and self-expression. Young people aren’t just participants — they help shape the programme itself\, giving them a genuine voice and a real sense of ownership. \nLed by professional artists and makers\, workshops are inclusive\, safe\, and designed to bring together young people from different backgrounds around shared creative goals. \nThis group will meet on a mixture of Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. \nThis is a pilot project. What we learn will inform a longer 18-month programme that we hope to secure funding for. It takes planning\, creativity\, patience\, and a mix of skills from art\, photography\, video\, music and storytelling. The result? No booking required — just turn up!\nRides are individually priced by Raymond’s Amusements.\n\nWhat do I need to know? \n\nThis event takes place inside a big-top circus tent next to the play area at Coronation Park\, Helston\, TR13 0RA.\nSeating is provided inside the tent.\nFor daytime events\, Lakeside Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks\, ice creams\, cakes and a range of family-friendly meals. For evening events\, limited refreshments will be available.\nThere is a small pay and display car park at Coronation Park — all proceeds support the running of the park. Join us for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing – an eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like: \n🌧️ Extreme weather\n🍞 Food security\n🏥 Health\n💷 Cost of living \nThe film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV\, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham\, Deborah Meaden\, and a range of voices from across the UK \nAfter the film there will be a short open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally. \nWe have invited the local MP\, Jayne Kirkham\, and are optimistic that they will join with constituents for this important discussion about our future. \nAttendance for this event is free but we kindly accept any donation to help us continue bringing these important films to you. Can you find them all? \nBobo\, the loveable character from Caroline Pedler’s The Accidental Gardener\, has been busy planting up his seedlings – but these aren’t ordinary seedlings. \nWeird\, wonderful\, colourful and made from all sorts of materials by members of the community\, the giant seedlings have popped up in shops and venues right across town. \nYour mission: find them all\, complete your trail\, then head to Lakeside Cafe at Coronation Park to claim your prize! \nRunning throughout May half term\, this free family trail is the perfect excuse to explore Helston’s shops and streets with your family before heading to Coronation Park. \nPick up a trail from anywhere in town displaying a seedling – don’t worry\, you’ll spot them. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free\, self-guided trail. No booking required.\nThe trail runs across Helston town centre\, not just the park.\nPick up a trail from Lakeside Cafe at Coronation Park or from participating shops and venues across town.\nPrizes can be claimed at Lakeside Cafe in Coronation Park.\nAlso happening during May half term: Story Quest Day at Coronation Park (Friday 30th May) — a creative outdoor adventure where stories come to life across the park\, rounding off a week-long celebration of words and stories in Helston.\n\nWhat do I need to know? \n\nThe trail finishes at Coronation Park\, Helston\, TR13 0RA\, but takes place across town.\nLakeside Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks\, ice creams\, cakes and a range of family-friendly meals.\nThe trail runs in all weather – so bring a coat on wet days!\nThere is a small pay and display car park at Coronation Park — all proceeds support the running of the park. There is a larger pay and display car park at Castle Green. Throughout the week\, Trevow Helston teams up with Cornwall’s writing centre\, The Writers’ Block\, to bring workshops\, events and drop-in sessions to venues all over town — from memoir writing and manga workshops to poetry\, zine-making\, an open mic speakeasy and The Story Lab at Trevow Chapel\, where you can become a Story Inventor and create your own characters and stories. \nStory Quest Day brings the adventure outdoors and into Coronation Park for a creative family day to round off the week. \nPerfect for curious minds\, budding writers and anyone who loves a good tale. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free event.
