Meet Your Future Bandmates!\n \nYou can play your instrument. You’ve learned some songs. You practice in your bedroom. But have you ever played in an actual band?\nThis is your chance to meet other young musicians\, form a band\, learn a song together\, and perform it live—all in just five days. \nWhat Happens Over the 5 Days? \n🤝 DAY 1: Meet Your Band (Monday) \nFIRST: Get to know everyone through icebreakers and a casual jam session. We’ll figure out who plays what and at what level\, then split into bands\, duos\, or trios based on your skills and musical tastes. \nTHEN: Your band chooses a song YOU want to learn (within your genre—rock\, pop\, indie\, whatever your groove is). Start working on it together and getting the basics down. \nThis is where the magic starts—strangers become bandmates. \n🎸 DAY 2 & 3: Make It Sound Good (Tuesday & Wednesday) \nPRACTICE\, practice\, practice. Get your song tight and performance-ready with guidance and support throughout the day. You’ll work on: \n\nPlaying together as a unit\nTiming and dynamics\nBand communication\nMaking it sound polished\n\nIf your band nails the song early? Great—choose another one and keep the momentum going! \n🌟 DAY 4: The final push & rehearsal (Thursday) \nFIRST: Final rehearsal to polish your performance. \nTHEN: Sound check\, stage setup\, then it’s time to decide a running order and then it’s time to perform to the group. \n🌟 DAY 5: Show Time (Friday) \nFIRST: Final rehearsal to polish your performance. \nTHEN: Sound check\, stage setup\, the it’s time to do this for real! Play in your new band to parents and friends\, you decide who to invite. (Shows start at 11.30am & 2.30pm) \nFrom “nice to meet you” to “playing live together” in three fun sessions. \nIs This For Me? \n✓ Perfect If You: \n\nCan already play your instrument at a basic level\nHave your own instrument (and amp if needed) – Talk to use if you need an instrument to take part\, we will see if we can help.\nPractice at home but have never been in a band\nWant to meet other young musicians your age\nAre aged 11-18\nAre ready to commit to all 5 half days\n\n✓ What Parents Should Know: \n\nStructured\, supervised workshop with experienced guidance\nTeaches collaboration\, commitment\, and confidence\nSafe environment for teens to develop social and musical skills\nAffordable at just £75 for the course (Just £37.50 for HALF PRICE tickets supported by South Kerrier Alliance – That’s just £7.50 per day!!!!)\nCulminates in a real performance opportunity\nShort break factored in midway through the session\, bring a snack and water bottle. \n\nWhat You’ll Need to Bring \n🎸 Your own instrument\n🔌 Your amp (if you play electric guitar/bass)\n🎒 A snack and drinks bottle\, we have a top-up water station\n💪 Enthusiasm and commitment for all 5 sessions \nIt’s best if you bring your own gear\, which you will use at your own risk. For drummers we have one drum kit available per session! \nThe Details\nWhen: Monday 13th – Friday 20th\nTime: Either: 10am – 1pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm daily (Please note\, you cannot mix morning and afternoon sessions!)\nWho: Ages 11-18 who can already play their instrument\, or would like to sing\nCost: £75 for the course (Just £37.50 for HALF PRICE tickets supported by South Kerrier Alliance – That’s just £7.50 per day!!!!)\nWhere: The Basement \nFREE SPACES AVAILABLE We reserve 20% of spaces for FSM (Free school meals) Basement Members. Where?\nThe Basement is in Trengrouse Way pay and display car park. \n\n\nDo I have to book?\nWe have a limited capacity and booking means we can guarantee you a space.  If we have space available we may be able to take walk-ins on the day but we cannot guarantee this. \n\n\nWhat is access like?\nWe have level\, step-free access from the car park into the building as well as accessible toilets. DESCRIPTION:A new creative programme for teens\nLed by Open The Box Arts (11+)\nMonday 6pm-8pm\nYour Story\, Your Art! \nA creative programme for teens aimed at bring young people together to amplify their voices and tell their stories about our town. \nOver three months\, we’re bringing together a crew of young people from across Helston to co-create a workshop programme that you shape and lead. Think zine-making\, storytelling\, art\, writing\, and more — using professional materials\, working with brilliant artists\, and making something real together. The programme will end with a sharing and exhibition at The Basement on Saturday 13 June.  \nNo pressure. No auditions. Just good people\, good creative work\, and a place where you belong \nFor Parents and Carers \nThe Basement is a neutral\, welcoming space in Helston town centre — not attached to any school or existing group — where young people aged 11–18 can meet\, create\, and build new friendships. \nThis pilot project uses high-quality creative workshops to support confidence\, wellbeing\, and self-expression. Young people aren’t just participants — they help shape the programme itself\, giving them a genuine voice and a real sense of ownership. \nLed by professional artists and makers\, workshops are inclusive\, safe\, and designed to bring together young people from different backgrounds around shared creative goals. \nThis group will meet on a mixture of Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. \nThis is a pilot project. What we learn will inform a longer 18-month programme that we hope to secure funding for.
