SUMMARY:Play It Again!
DESCRIPTION:Play It Again!\nOne Blue Eye\nSaturday 18th July | 11am–3pm\nFREE EVENT – part of Playful Park\nThis summer\, Coronation Park is getting seriously colourful\, but before Playful Park launches on 26th July\, there’s work to do – and this is where you come in. \nPlay It Again is a hands-on creative session with Helston’s own One Blue Eye – the brilliant recycled plastic workshop based right here in town\, led by maker Matt Nott. Together\, we’ll transform waste plastic into game-playing pieces for the new floor mural. These are the pieces that families will pick up and play with all summer – and you’ll have helped make them. \nThis isn’t just a workshop. It’s about rolling up your sleeves\, getting creative\, and playing your part in getting Coronation Park ready for its most colourful summer yet. Whether you’re five or fifty-five\, come along\, get stuck in\, and know that when you see families playing on that mural in August\, you helped make it happen. \nPart of the build-up to the Playful Park launch on 26th July. \nWhat is Playful Park? \nPlayful Park our 2026 project transforming Coronation Park into a vibrant destination for family fun all summer long. At its heart is a spectacular giant painted floor mural designed by local artist Lisa Curtis – packed with games for all ages\, free to play and here to stay as a permanent new addition to the park. \nAlongside the mural\, there’s an interactive running track\, community bunting-making\, the Big Scribble (where you get to draw all over the paths!)\, a two-day games expo\, busking from local young musicians\, Play in a Day with the Minack\, roaming Commedia dell’arte\, Wake the Giant\, a family sports day and much more running right through the summer holidays. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free event. SUMMARY:Squashbox: Stones & Bones
DESCRIPTION:Squashbox: Stones & Bones\nsupported by Lakeside Cafe\nTuesday 4th August | 2.30pm\nFREE EVENT\nJourney back to ancient Cornwall — a land of fiery volcanoes\, strange prehistoric creatures\, myth\, legend\, giants and druids! \nSquashbox Theatre’s Stones & Bones is a marvellous mix of history and mystery. Find out all about archaeology and fossils\, say hello to one of your stone-age ancestors\, hear stories of giants and wizards\, see a volcano erupting before your very eyes\, and maybe even glimpse a dinosaur or two. There will be thrills and spills galore\, but also lots of laughs\, plenty of puppets\, songs\, slapstick\, tall tales and crazy characters — all presented in that unique Squashbox style. \nSquashbox Theatre’s Craig Johnson — former member of Cornwall’s renowned Kneehigh Theatre — is a much-loved fixture of the Coronation Park summer programme. His shows combine natural history\, slapstick and a gently subversive sense of humour that delights adults just as much as children. We’re grateful for the kind support of Lakeside Cafe\, whose generous sponsorship helps us bring Squashbox Theatre to the park for free every summer. \nStones & Bones is just one of four free Squashbox shows at Coronation Park this summer: \n\nCurious Creatures — 13th June\, 2.30pm\nStones & Bones — 4th August\, 2.30pm\nSkillywidden — 22nd August\, 2.30pm\nThe Sea Show — 31st August\, 2.30pm\n\nWith thanks to Lakeside Cafe for supporting all Squashbox events. \nSupport free events at Coronation Park \nThis year\, over 60% of our events at Coronation Park are completely free. We do this because we believe that everyone in Helston and on The Lizard deserves access to brilliant events — regardless of what’s in their pocket. The South Kerrier Alliance CIC is a not-for-profit organisation and we don’t receive any regular public funding. Every free event we put on is only possible because of the support of people like you. If days like this matter to you and your community\, please consider making a donation here. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for children aged 5+ and their families.\nApproximate running time: 50 minutes.\nThis is a free event. No booking required — just turn up!\n\nWhat do I need to know? \n\nThis open-air event takes place in Events Square\, directly outside Lakeside Cafe at Coronation Park\, Helston\, TR13 0RA.\nPlease bring your own chairs and/or blankets. Seating is not provided.\nLakeside Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks\, ice creams\, cakes and a range of family-friendly meals.\nOutdoor events will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions\, so please dress for the Cornish weather and bring a coat. Please don’t bring umbrellas as they block the view for other audience members.\nThere is a small pay and display car park at Coronation Park — all proceeds support the running of the park. There is a larger pay and display car park at Castle Green. Free parking is available at the nearby Fairground car park.\nThere is level access to Coronation Park and Events Square. If you have any additional access needs that you’d like to discuss with us\, please email Guy at guy@lovehelston.co.uk.\nThere are accessible toilets at the rear of Lakeside Cafe.\nEvents may be filmed or photographed and the material may be used by the South Kerrier Alliance CIC and its partner companies/organisations for evaluation\, promotion or other projects.
