Young people aren’t just participants — they help shape the programme itself\, giving them a genuine voice and a real sense of ownership. \nLed by professional artists and makers\, workshops are inclusive\, safe\, and designed to bring together young people from different backgrounds around shared creative goals. \nThis group will meet on a mixture of Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. \nThis is a pilot project. What we learn will inform a longer 18-month programme that we hope to secure funding for. Join us for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing – an eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like: \n🌧️ Extreme weather\n🍞 Food security\n🏥 Health\n💷 Cost of living \nThe film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV\, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham\, Deborah Meaden\, and a range of voices from across the UK \nAfter the film there will be a short open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally. \nWe have invited the local MP\, Jayne Kirkham\, and are optimistic that they will join with constituents for this important discussion about our future. \nAttendance for this event is free but we kindly accept any donation to help us continue bringing these important films to you. Can you find them all? \nBobo\, the loveable character from Caroline Pedler’s The Accidental Gardener\, has been busy planting up his seedlings – but these aren’t ordinary seedlings. \nWeird\, wonderful\, colourful and made from all sorts of materials by members of the community\, the giant seedlings have popped up in shops and venues right across town. \nYour mission: find them all\, complete your trail\, then head to Lakeside Cafe at Coronation Park to claim your prize! \nRunning throughout May half term\, this free family trail is the perfect excuse to explore Helston’s shops and streets with your family before heading to Coronation Park. \nPick up a trail from anywhere in town displaying a seedling – don’t worry\, you’ll spot them. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free\, self-guided trail. No booking required.\nThe trail runs across Helston town centre\, not just the park.\nPick up a trail from Lakeside Cafe at Coronation Park or from participating shops and venues across town.\nPrizes can be claimed at Lakeside Cafe in Coronation Park.\nAlso happening during May half term: Story Quest Day at Coronation Park (Friday 30th May) — a creative outdoor adventure where stories come to life across the park\, rounding off a week-long celebration of words and stories in Helston.\n\nWhat do I need to know? \n\nThe trail finishes at Coronation Park\, Helston\, TR13 0RA\, but takes place across town.\nLakeside Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks\, ice creams\, cakes and a range of family-friendly meals.\nThe trail runs in all weather – so bring a coat on wet days!\nThere is a small pay and display car park at Coronation Park — all proceeds support the running of the park. There is a larger pay and display car park at Castle Green. DESCRIPTION:Story Quest Day\nTrevow Helston & The Writers’ Block\nSaturday 30th May\nFREE EVENT\nFrom coats with too many pockets\, to weird and wonderful objects\, to a cast of unexpected characters\, Story Quest Day is a creative outdoor adventure where stories come to life across the park. Solve the riddles to find hidden objects\, create pocket stories\, invent your own wild and wacky character and be entertained by the fabulous Story Republic! \nStory Quest Day is the grand finale of The Story Lab – a week-long celebration of words and stories that transforms Helston into a living literary adventure across the May half term. Throughout the week\, Trevow Helston teams up with Cornwall’s writing centre\, The Writers’ Block\, to bring workshops\, events and drop-in sessions to venues all over town — from memoir writing and manga workshops to poetry\, zine-making\, an open mic speakeasy and The Story Lab at Trevow Chapel\, where you can become a Story Inventor and create your own characters and stories. \nStory Quest Day brings the adventure outdoors and into Coronation Park for a creative family day to round off the week. \nPerfect for curious minds\, budding writers and anyone who loves a good tale. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free event. No booking required — just turn up!\nWear comfortable shoes for exploring the park.\nAlso running during May half term: Bobo’s Giant Seedling Trail (23rd–31st May) — hunt down Bobo’s escaped giant seedlings across town and claim your prize at the park café!\n\nWhat do I need to know? \n\nThis event takes place across Coronation Park\, Helston\, TR13 0RA.\nLakeside Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks\, ice creams\, cakes and a range of family-friendly meals.\nThe event will go ahead in all but the most extreme weather conditions\, so please dress for the Cornish weather.\nThere is a small pay and display car park at Coronation Park — all proceeds support the running of the park. There is a larger pay and display car park at Castle Green. Free parking is available at the nearby Fairground car park.\nThere is level access to Coronation Park. If you have any additional access needs that you’d like to discuss with us\, please email Guy at guy@lovehelston.co.uk.\nThere are accessible toilets at the rear of Lakeside Cafe.\nEvents may be filmed or photographed and the material may be used by the South Kerrier Alliance CIC and its partner companies/organisations for evaluation\, promotion or other projects.
