Our third free open-air screening of the summer brings A Minecraft Movie to the big screen at Coronation Park. \nThe songs. The magic. The whole family. Whether your kids are Minecraft obsessives or you just fancy a free film in the park\, this is a brilliant way to spend a summer afternoon. Grab the kids\, pack a picnic or visit Lakeside Cafe\, spread out your blankets and enjoy another afternoon of free cinema in the great outdoors. \nThis is one of four free open-air cinema screenings this summer\, brought to you by the South Kerrier Alliance — completely free for the whole community. \nSupport free events at Coronation Park \nThis year\, over 60% of our events at Coronation Park are completely free. We do this because we believe that everyone in Helston and on The Lizard deserves access to brilliant events — regardless of what’s in their pocket. The South Kerrier Alliance CIC is a not-for-profit organisation and we don’t receive any regular public funding. Every free event we put on is only possible because of the support of people like you. If days like this matter to you and your community\, please consider making a donation here. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free event. No booking required — just turn up!\nPlease bring your own chairs and/or blankets. Seating is not provided.\n\nWhat do I need to know? \n\nThis open-air event takes place in Events Square\, directly outside Lakeside Cafe at Coronation Park\, Helston\, TR13 0RA.\nPlease bring your own chairs and/or blankets. Seating is not provided.\nLakeside Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks\, ice creams\, cakes and a range of family-friendly meals.\nOutdoor events will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions\, so please dress for the Cornish weather and bring a coat. Please don’t bring umbrellas as they block the view for other audience members.\nThere is a small pay and display car park at Coronation Park — all proceeds support the running of the park. There is a larger pay and display car park at Castle Green. Free parking is available at the nearby Fairground car park.\nThere is level access to Coronation Park and Events Square. If you have any additional access needs that you’d like to discuss with us\, please email Guy at guy@lovehelston.co.uk.\nThere are accessible toilets at the rear of Lakeside Cafe.\nEvents may be filmed or photographed and the material may be used by the South Kerrier Alliance CIC and its partner companies/organisations for evaluation\, promotion or other projects. DESCRIPTION:Commedia dell’arte on the Loose!\nDidi Hopkins & Trevow Helston\nMonday 10th – Sunday 16th August\nFREE POP-UP PERFORMANCES — Playful Park\nWe are thrilled to welcome one of the UK’s leading Commedia dell’arte practitioners to Helston this summer. Didi Hopkins — whose extraordinary career spans the National Theatre\, the Royal Shakespeare Company\, RADA\, LAMDA and the Roundhouse\, and who was a central figure in developing the smash-hit One Man\, Two Guvnors — is coming to Coronation Park as part of Playful Park. \nWorking with Trevow Helston\, Didi will spend two weeks with a group of students\, immersing them in the 500-year-old Italian theatre tradition of Commedia dell’arte — the masks\, the characters\, the improvisation\, the slapstick and the storytelling that sit at the very roots of European theatre. The first week takes place at Trevow Chapel; the second week\, the troupe moves to Coronation Park. \nThroughout the week\, there will be a pop-up performance somewhere in the park. It could happen at any time — by the lake\, near the cafe\, in the play park\, anywhere. Keep your eyes peeled and look out for them around and about! These unannounced\, unpredictable and utterly delightful moments of live theatre are Commedia at its best — mischievous\, physical\, funny and totally in the moment. \nWhat is Playful Park? \nPlayful Park is our 2026 project transforming Coronation Park into a vibrant destination for family fun all summer long. At its heart is a spectacular giant painted floor mural designed by local artist Lisa Curtis — packed with games for all ages\, free to play and here to stay as a permanent new addition to the park. Alongside the mural\, there’s an interactive running track\, community bunting-making\, the Big Scribble (where you get to draw all over the paths!)\, a two-day games expo\, busking from local young musicians\, Play in a Day with the Minack\, roaming Commedia dell’arte\, Wake the Giant\, a family sports day and much more running right through the summer holidays. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free event.
