Throughout the week\, Trevow Helston teams up with Cornwall’s writing centre\, The Writers’ Block\, to bring workshops\, events and drop-in sessions to venues all over town — from memoir writing and manga workshops to poetry\, zine-making\, an open mic speakeasy and The Story Lab at Trevow Chapel\, where you can become a Story Inventor and create your own characters and stories. \nStory Quest Day brings the adventure outdoors and into Coronation Park for a creative family day to round off the week. \nPerfect for curious minds\, budding writers and anyone who loves a good tale. \nEvent-Specific Information \n\nSuitable for all ages.\nThis is a free event. Together\, we’ll transform waste plastic into game-playing pieces for the new floor mural. These are the pieces that families will pick up and play with all summer – and you’ll have helped make them. \nThis isn’t just a workshop. It’s about rolling up your sleeves\, getting creative\, and playing your part in getting Coronation Park ready for its most colourful summer yet. Whether you’re five or fifty-five\, come along\, get stuck in\, and know that when you see families playing on that mural in August\, you helped make it happen. \nPart of the build-up to the Playful Park launch on 26th July. \nWhat is Playful Park? \nPlayful Park our 2026 project transforming Coronation Park into a vibrant destination for family fun all summer long. Find out all about archaeology and fossils\, say hello to one of your stone-age ancestors\, hear stories of giants and wizards\, see a volcano erupting before your very eyes\, and maybe even glimpse a dinosaur or two. There will be thrills and spills galore\, but also lots of laughs\, plenty of puppets\, songs\, slapstick\, tall tales and crazy characters — all presented in that unique Squashbox style. \nSquashbox Theatre’s Craig Johnson — former member of Cornwall’s renowned Kneehigh Theatre — is a much-loved fixture of the Coronation Park summer programme. His shows combine natural history\, slapstick and a gently subversive sense of humour that delights adults just as much as children. Part of the Playful Park summer programme — because sometimes the best art happens when you just let people loose with a box of chalk. \nWhat is Playful Park? \nPlayful Park is our 2026 project transforming Coronation Park into a vibrant destination for family fun all summer long. At its heart is a spectacular giant painted floor mural designed by local artist Lisa Curtis — packed with games for all ages\, free to play and here to stay as a permanent new addition to the park.
