SUMMARY:Squashbox: Stones & Bones
DESCRIPTION:Squashbox: Stones & Bones\nsupported by Lakeside Cafe\nTuesday 4th August | 2.30pm\nFREE EVENT\nJourney back to ancient Cornwall — a land of fiery volcanoes\, strange prehistoric creatures\, myth\, legend\, giants and druids! \nSquashbox Theatre’s Stones & Bones is a marvellous mix of history and mystery. Find out all about archaeology and fossils\, say hello to one of your stone-age ancestors\, hear stories of giants and wizards\, see a volcano erupting before your very eyes\, and maybe even glimpse a dinosaur or two. There will be thrills and spills galore\, but also lots of laughs\, plenty of puppets\, songs\, slapstick\, tall tales and crazy characters — all presented in that unique Squashbox style. \nSquashbox Theatre’s Craig Johnson — former member of Cornwall’s renowned Kneehigh Theatre — is a much-loved fixture of the Coronation Park summer programme. SUMMARY:Commedia dell'arte on the Loose!
DESCRIPTION:Commedia dell’arte on the Loose!\nDidi Hopkins & Trevow Helston\nMonday 10th – Sunday 16th August\nFREE POP-UP PERFORMANCES — Playful Park\nWe are thrilled to welcome one of the UK’s leading Commedia dell’arte practitioners to Helston this summer. Didi Hopkins — whose extraordinary career spans the National Theatre\, the Royal Shakespeare Company\, RADA\, LAMDA and the Roundhouse\, and who was a central figure in developing the smash-hit One Man\, Two Guvnors — is coming to Coronation Park as part of Playful Park. \nWorking with Trevow Helston\, Didi will spend two weeks with a group of students\, immersing them in the 500-year-old Italian theatre tradition of Commedia dell’arte — the masks\, the characters\, the improvisation\, the slapstick and the storytelling that sit at the very roots of European theatre. The first week takes place at Trevow Chapel; the second week\, the troupe moves to Coronation Park. \nThroughout the week\, there will be a pop-up performance somewhere in the park. It could happen at any time — by the lake\, near the cafe\, in the play park\, anywhere. Keep your eyes peeled and look out for them around and about! SUMMARY:Wake the Giant!
DESCRIPTION:Wake the Giant! by The Lost Giants\nSupported by Trevow Helston & South Kerrier Alliance\nFriday 28th August | 11am–3pm (procession at 3pm)\nFREE EVENT — Playful Park\nSomething massive is coming to Coronation Park — and it needs YOUR help to come alive! \nWake the Giant is a brand new event for Helston\, created by The Lost Giants — Amy and Ruth Webb\, Cornwall’s very own professional giant makers. Born from a 35-year-old giant-making tradition in Lostwithiel\, The Lost Giants revive and reimagine folk practices\, bringing communities together through the shared magic of making and celebration. Now they’re bringing their extraordinary craft to Coronation Park for a day like nothing the park has ever seen. \nFrom 11am\, the park becomes a hive of making and mischief. Help dress the giant\, craft your own makeshift musical instruments\, and gather together to celebrate summer’s bounty. Inspired by the Cornish tradition of “shallal” — where communities took to the streets to make themselves heard for miles around — the morning builds towards one glorious\, noisy\, colourful moment. \nAt 3pm\, it’s time. Lead a bonkers\, noisy procession around the lake — the bigger the crowd\, the bigger the noise! Bring the whole family\, bring your neighbours\, bring anyone who loves a bit of joyful chaos. \nNothing like this has ever happened at the park before. Don’t miss the chance to be part of it. \nWhat is Playful Park? \nPlayful Park is our 2026 project transforming Coronation Park into a vibrant destination for family fun all summer long. At its heart is a spectacular giant painted floor mural designed by local artist Lisa Curtis — packed with games for all ages\, free to play and here to stay as a permanent new addition to the park. Alongside the mural\, there’s an interactive running track\, community bunting-making\, the Big Scribble (where you get to draw all over the paths!)\, a two-day games expo\, busking from local young musicians\, Play in a Day with the Minack\, roaming Commedia dell’arte\, Wake the Giant\, a family sports day and much more running right through the summer holidays. \nSupport free events at Coronation Park \nThis year\, over 60% of our events at Coronation Park are completely free. SUMMARY:Noche de Pica Rico
DESCRIPTION:Noche de Pica Rico\nMexican street food meets Cornish produce\nSaturday 29th August | from 7pm\nBOOKING COMING SOON\nGreat food\, great music\, great vibes. Helston’s own Pica Rico bring their vibrant Mexican street food to Coronation Park for one unmissable evening — with a soundtrack to match. \nJenn and Francis have been on a journey from pop-up taquerias in London to travelling through Mexico learning ancestral cooking techniques\, before landing in Cornwall and opening their much-loved deli right here in Helston. Stone-ground corn masa\, incredible tacos\, fresh ceviches and all the bold flavours Mexico has to offer. \nNow imagine that — outdoors\, by the lake\, with music setting the tone for the evening as the sun goes down. The tracks as carefully curated as the food\, building from chilled grooves into something that bit more funky.
