Soil Rave!

Soil Rave*!
Tuesday 25th August | 10.30am
FREE EVENT
Get ready to meet the tiniest, hardest-working residents of Cornwall. Soil Rave is a free, drop-in session that brings the soil food web to life – up close, hands-on, and a lot more fun than “soil science” usually sounds.
Led by soil ecologist Ian Boyd-Livingston of Soil Rave, this session invites you to dig in and discover the microscopic world working away beneath our feet. The fungi, the worms, the bugs, the whole underground crew that turns compost into the food that’ll be growing in our new park planters.
Come for ten minutes or stay for the whole thing; either way, you’ll never look at a handful of mud the same way again. Want to take a look at the soil in your own garden? Bring some along for us to look at under the microscope!
*In conservation, a RAVE is a Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition. It’s a journey to an ecosystem, to observe and wonder about the life there, then to reflect and decide whether action is needed. It’s a thoughtful dance with nature, and we only need to travel through the lens of a microscope to get there.
This event is created in partnership with Helston Climate Action Group and the Incredible Edible volunteers at Coronation Park. It has been generously supported by the Helston Town Council Community Green Grant and is part of a series of events preparing our new park planters.
Support free events at Coronation Park
This year, over 60% of our events at Coronation Park are completely free. We do this because we believe that everyone in Helston and on The Lizard deserves access to brilliant events — regardless of what’s in their pocket. The South Kerrier Alliance CIC is a not-for-profit organisation and we don’t receive any regular public funding. Every free event we put on is only possible because of the support of people like you. If days like this matter to you and your community, please consider making a donation here.
