Ahoy, water warriors and fun-seeking families! Round up your crew and zoom down to Helston’s Water Carnival this summer – it’s back and bigger than ever! We’re back for the third year with a floating float parade, mini sailing boat race and a “Need for Speed” peddled float race! #LoveHelston

What’s taking place on the day?

Start by making your own mini boat to race across the Boating Lake from 12pm
Bring your own used, single-use plastic water bottle and come over to the big pink welcome flags in the park. The volunteers from the local model-boat club, Pond Hoppers, will give you everything you need (apart from the bottle) to make your own mini sailing boat. At 2pm everyone will race their mini sailing boats from one side of the lake to the other.

Join in a free circus workshop and meet Morvyn the Sea Dragon
Have fun with Helston’s own circus school – Cirk Hes at a free circus-skills workshop, look out for the stilt walker and spot our new resident sea dragon, Morvyn.

Cheer and wave to your favourite community-built float pulled by the lake’s resident flamingo and swan pedalos
Groups, clubs and businesses in Helston have been busily making floating contraptions to be pulled by our pedalos – which one is going to win the £100 prize? Find out after the mayor has judged each float and chosen their favourites.

Psst… we’re also going to be handing out a few free water-shooters for our designated “splash zone” – watch-out pedlers, you might just be getting a bit damp…

At 4pm get ready for some seriously competitive pedling at the “Need for Speed” float race!
Watch our float teams compete in a race, pulling their floats across the lake. Who will pedal the fastest and claim the £50 prize for being the “speediest float on the water”!

Hellys Craft Fair
Throughout the afternoon we’ll also be welcoming a curated selection of local crafters who will be selling their handcrafted items on Events Square.

Helston Water Carnival is fun for everyone in the family so come on down and have a splashingly good time!

Event-Specific Information

• Suitable for all ages. Spectators welcome!
• This is a free event. No booking required — just turn up!
• Wet weather backup date: Sunday 12th July.

What do I need to know?

• This event takes place around the Boating Lake at Coronation Park, Helston, TR13 0RA.
• Lakeside Cafe will be open serving hot and cold drinks, ice creams, cakes and a range of family-friendly meals.
• The event will go ahead in all but the most extreme weather conditions, so please dress for the Cornish weather.
• There is a small pay and display car park at Coronation Park — all proceeds support the running of the park. There is a larger pay and display car park at Castle Green. Free parking is available at the nearby Fairground car park.
• There is level access to Coronation Park. If you have any additional access needs that you’d like to discuss with us, please email Guy at guy@lovehelston.co.uk.
• There are accessible toilets at the rear of Lakeside Cafe.
• Events may be filmed or photographed and the material may be used by the South Kerrier Alliance CIC and its partner companies/organisations for evaluation, promotion or other projects. Please make sure everyone in your party is aware of this.
